With Rolling Over "Blinkity Blank", Pierre Hébert will pay tribute to McLaren and to his precursory and radical films.
This multidisciplinary improvisation will combine a musical performance by Andrea Martignoni, film etching and digital installation and establish a clear parallel with McLaren's work. He was the pioneer of "instrumental" film, which opened the door to a world of possibilities in animation.
Pierre Hébert will borrow visual themes from one of his most remarkable films, Blinkity Blank, created in 1955 and winner of the Palme d'or at Cannes, as a symbol of the most radical practice. With the film's use of intermittant animation, it prepared our minds for the arrival of new digital technology.
