First footage of "The Book of Life" was presented during a Work in Progress session at Annecy 2014 and this year, the entire film will be shown outdoors on the giant screen on the Pâquier!
Jorge Gutierrez (Director) and Guillermo del Toro (Producer) invite you inside one of Mexico's biggest events: the Day of the Dead. A concoction of colours, chants, dances and love will animate the screen, sure to please young and older audiences alike.
Plot
The Book of Life takes you deep into the heart of Mexico, in the village of San Angel. Manolo, Maria and Joaquin are an inseparable trio living there but their friendship falls apart when Maria's father sends the rebellious girl away to learn proper manners in Europe.
Joaquin follows in the footsteps of his father, a great war chief, by joining the military academy and becoming a legendary crusader. Manolo, who comes from a family of bull fighters, is torn between his family's expectations and his own dreams of becoming a musician.
Years later, Maria comes back home and the two boys, still hopelessly in love, try to seduce her. But Manolo is challenged by the gods and must overcome his greatest fears in order to win her heart.
