Japanese animation is in the spotlight this year at the Annecy Festival! To celebrate, we invite you to travel to the dreamlike world of Mary and the Witch’s Flower, which was Studio Ponoc’s first feature film.
Far from the clichés about a witch with a pointed hat and crooked nose, the story begins with Mary, a little girl like any other, who has just moved to the country with her great aunt Charlotte. In her walks alone in the surrounding fields and forests, she discovers a flower with a hypnotic color and potent power, capable of turning her into a witch for one night – just enough time to lead her to Endor, a famous Magic School nestled far away from mere mortals, up beyond the clouds...
Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, who is behind the studio Ghibli’s creations, The Secret World of Arrietty, and When Marnie Was There, Mary and the Witch’s Flower transports us into a world that seems familiar to us, yet everything is still waiting to be discovered.
A broomstick, a black cat, and witchcraft…a mesmerizing ride awaits!
