British filmmaker Barry JC Purves is the well-known author of major stop-motion work and pioneer in exploring gay themes in animation. His work, such as Screen Play and Achilles, has won multiple awards.

Barry JC Purves will be awarded an Honorary Crystal at the Festival’s 2023 edition in recognition of his outstanding career and commitment to LGBTQ+ animation.

The director will also present a Masterclass called "The Revealing Mask" to share his thoughts and experiences on how animation can be used to represent and celebrate the LGBTQ+ identity.
