Spanish animation takes pride of place with the From Doodles to Pixels project that looks back at more than 100 years of evolution. The Under the Yoke programme shows the extent to which films were used to serve political agendas.
In a Spain devastated by civil war, the Franco regime saw the potential in using the cinema for propaganda purposes and therefore sponsored the production of The Enchanted Sword. This film had a bigger budget than live action films of the time and became the first animated feature film in colour outside the US.
From Doodles to Pixels, curated by Carolina López, is a coproduction of the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona CCCB and Acción Cultural Española AC/E.
With the support of Filmoteca de Catalunya, Filmoteca Española, Movierecord, Tres60BCN and Lobster Films.
