"The Painting" by Jean-François Laguionie is coming back to the Annecy Festival for an open-air screening at the Musée-Château courtyard.
In the Offical Selection at Annecy, this animated feature was also nominated for a César in 2012. Filmmaker Jean-François Laguionie is a Festival regular, having presented several of his films at Annecy and won the Grand prix in 1965 for The Young Lady and the Cellist.
Plot
A castle, flower gardens and a frightening forest; these are the things that a painter left unfinished for reasons unknown. Three kinds of characters live in this painting: the Toupins, who are entirely painted, the Pafinis, who lack a few colours, and the Reufs, who are only sketches. The Toupins take power, chase the Pafinis from the castle, and enslave the Reufs. Convinced that only the painter can restore harmony by finishing the painting, Ramo, Lola, and Plume decide to go looking for him.
