Between Frames – The Art of Brazilian Animation (Tribute to Brazilian Animation)

Brazilian animation is honoured throughout the week in order to bring to our attention the country's cultural energy, in particular in terms of cinema. The quality of its films has been recognised on several occasions at the Annecy Festival. As Marcel Jean, the artistic director, has pointed out, "we want to show how this major territory is a powerful source of creativity and to show how Brazilian animators have been inspired by it in order to establish a unique and powerful expression."

The feature film Between Frames – The Art of Brazilian Animation by Eduardo Calvet, presented in official selection out of competition at the 2014 Annecy Festival, will be screened during this special programme. The director will recount the long history of Brazilian animation, its origins, with the first Brazilian animated film The Kaiser directed by the caricaturist Seth (Álvaro Marins) in 1917 as a starting point, up to its most recent successes.

This programme, interspersed with a range of excerpts, is undoubtedly a good way of discovering for the first time a type of film that is often largely unknown, and it is with pleasure that we are presenting it to you!
