Mifa Pitches Partner Prize 2020: Cristal Publishing Prize
What do you remember from your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
Our participation in the 2020 Mifa Pitches was very enriching. After getting over the disappointment of not being able to experience the Festival in its "normal" form, we prepared our pitch video for the online version. The guidance from our tutor was very constructive, this exercise allowed us to better specify the key communication points about the film Eugène and to refine our presentation. The lever was getting very good contacts with whom we are working and studying the best strategy to finance the film.
What is your project’s current status?
The development is complete, we have a script, a graphic storyboard, technical tests and have made a presentation teaser. The future is bright, we are starting our rounds for financial partners. To begin with we are looking for French partners, then at a later date we will probably need to look towards a European or international co-production.
What was the contribution to the development of the project from the partners that awarded you the prize?
We were thrilled to receive the Cristal Publishing Award to assist musical creation. We are in contact with Éric Debègue from the Cristal Group to see in what form exactly this award will be presented. It could be in the form of musical creation assistance. It could also be in the form of post-production aid.
A last word about your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
I would encourage any project leader to submit their project to the Mifa Pitches. On the one hand, being selected at these pitches is a mark of quality, selection is tough and the jury is specialised, therefore you are thrilled to get through this step. Next up, the presentation exercise lets you see what works or doesn’t, what is redundant in everyone’s speeches or on the contrary, complementary. The support we received in this exercise from the CITIA team and our tutor was very professional, benevolent and a direct aid to the project. Also, the related contacts are immensely important, pitching at Annecy provides the best showcase possible in the field of animation. Professionals are on hand and discussions are natural. We now hope to be able to experience the next edition "for real"!

Mifa Pitches Partner Prizes 2020: Arte France Prize and Ciclic Prize – Shortway
What do you remember from your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
I really liked hearing how the project was received. As this edition had its presentations online, many people could access our pitch’s video and tell us what they thought.
Being present at the Mifa gave us a lot of visibility, which helped us to contact a French production company with whom we are currently working, Autour de Minuit.
What is your project’s current status?
The project is currently under development. We are finishing a last version of the script.
Our next steps will be to start the storyboard and apply for different funds to complete the project’s financing.
What was the contribution to the development of the project from the partners that awarded you the prizes?
Thanks to the award given by Arte France we’ll be able to start the short film’s pre-production. We are very happy and grateful for their interest in the project. Soon we will send them the script to have their feedback. We also received a residency in CICLIC as a prize. We won this award thanks to an initiative where the project had previously participated (Shortway/Pixelatl). We are currently in conversation with Eric Reginaud to define the dates when I will attend. I am very excited to have the opportunity to do this residency!
A last word about your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
It was an incredible opportunity to have participated in Annecy Mifa. It really opened many doors for us. We are very grateful to the people at the Festival for their constant help, such as Géraldine Baché who saw El After del Mundo in Mexico thanks to Shortway, and from that moment on has closely assisted us.
I think it's obvious that Annecy Mifa is an excellent opportunity for all people who are doing animated projects. We were very lucky to have this place and we feel doubly proud because we are also Latin Americans. This year our continent was prominent at the Festival and that fills us with joy, as is the case with Coda, a feature film that also received a lot of attention. Let's hope that our presence continues to grow, and that we continue to fill these spaces!

Mifa Pitches Partner Prize 2020: Ciclic Prize
What do you remember from your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
We are delighted to have been able to present our series’ project Mehdi: Delivery Notice for the first time at this year’s Mifa Pitches. The Annecy Festival, even when virtual, remains an international platform that brings together all those involved in animation. We would’ve all enjoyed having direct feedback during a live event, but the video format, as well as being an additional challenge, forced us to consider the best way to present the project. The exposure provided from the Mifa Pitch enabled us to obtain precious valuable feedback for its further development, and to establish initial contact with potential partners.
What is your project’s current status?
During the summer we finished a 2.30-min teaser that gave us the opportunity to have constructive discussions with broadcasters. Now the aim is to rework the scripting bible thanks to the feedback received, whilst continuing the search for funding.
What was the contribution to the development of the project from the partners that awarded you the prize?
We are extremely proud to have won the Ciclic Award. We greatly appreciated their sensitivity and understanding towards the project. The residency in the Vendôme, planned for spring 2021, is the perfect opportunity for us to finish the development in the best possible conditions, before launching into production.
A last word about your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
The Annecy Festival has an international atmosphere in the world of animation. To participate in such an event is the perfect opportunity for young writers to present their project and benefit from quality support, professional feedback, within a caring environment that is unique to the Festival. The Pitch sessions are also the chance to take a step back from the project and enrich it from the feedback. Lastly, it is the opportunity to initiate first contacts with potential partners.

What do you remember from your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
The Mifa Pitches gave us the opportunity to have some great meetings with potential producers and broadcasters, which are more difficult to have outside the Festival context. Likewise, the online Pitch format and the advice provided by the Festival’s team gave us the opportunity to present our project on video and advance it for future development. As this was the first time we had been selected at the Annecy Festival we were also really pleased that the Pitches were maintained and presented in an online format in the context of Covid.
What is your project’s current status?
We were able to move forward with the writing and formatting phase of some of the project’s elements. At the beginning of July, we submitted a dossier for writing assistance to the CNC XN Funds for additional financial support in order to establish a script and strong course of action to launch the development. We are waiting for a reply. We are also looking for potential producers and broadcasters.
A last word about your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
The Mifa Pitches are an excellent springboard for project leaders, they give access to an entire address book and allow you to meet people from the sector for a project’s development, production and future broadcasting. Discussions between varying professionals in the sector are very enriching and help you take a step back when you have your head a little too absorbed by your own project.

Animation du Monde Workshop, Beirut Animated: Jury First Award
What do you remember from your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
The Annecy Mifa experience was great. One of my favorite memories was the Mifa pitching training during Beirut Animated. It was a great opportunity for me to meet many interesting directors and professionals in the field of animation. Also, it helped me develop my project, and my pitching skills, especially with the support of the experts: Géraldine Baché, Sébastien Tavel, and Ivan Zuber. Following the competition, I have kept in contact with all the experts who continued to support the project, helped me to develop the script, and gave me advice regarding production. Also, the online pitching training with Louis Jacobée helped me a lot to prepare for the video pitch.
What is your project’s current status?
Today the project is still in development, my sister and I are currently working on a first draft of the storyboard. We are also still looking for a French (European) producer so that we would be able to apply for funds. In parallel, we are checking animation residencies in France. With the current situation in Lebanon (explosion, corruption, economic crisis), which has largely affected the film industry, it is important for us to work on this film with a more stable country and we are hoping to get selected for a residency so that we could focus more on the film and make connections with professionals in the animation industry.
A last word about your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
The Mifa experience was great! I am very happy to be able to meet through the Mifa artists from the different fields of animation, discover some amazing projects, attend masterclasses, watch films, and make connections. Of course, I would have loved to be able to attend the Festival physically, but the online edition was very professional and I would definitely encourage animation film directors to apply with their projects. Also, the training with my different mentors helped enormously in the project’s pitching and development.
