Come and discover the projects and programs sought by RTÉ.

What is your editorial strategy ?

RTÉ has 2 distinct audiences that we cater for: RTÉjr 0-6-year-olds and RTÉ Kids for 7-12's. We feed a number of platforms: RTÉjr is a dedicated linear TV channel and RTÉ Kids runs daily on RTÉ 2 Monday to Friday from 2-5 pm. We are also trying to create a more 360 content offering in terms of our titles with dedicated podcasts and a strong RTÉ YouTube presence. In terms of our commissioning animation strategy our main remit is to support indigenous Irish animation companies to get their series to air. Whether that is initially through the development phase and to showcase at various industry events, to helping the animation companies access funding pots via Screen Ireland BAI ILBF, Screen NI. Obviously, the vast majority of projects that we work on are co-pros with other European Broadcasters. As a Public Service Broadcaster we love championing projects that may find it a little more difficult to get funding with commercial streamers/broadcasters. Like all content providers, comedy is incredibly important and education with a small e would be a key content driver. We also acquire a large amount of content at market across both age ranges to augment our overall offering.

What type of projects/programs are you looking for ?

Since 2018 we have been building our 7-12-year-olds slate. Titles that have been really successful for us include, Dorg Van Dango (Cartoon Saloon ), Boy Girl Dog Cat Mouse Cheese (Kavaleer), Royals Next Door (Ink & Light), Critters TV (Turnip & Duck/Daily Madness), Tales from Dún Draíochta (Igloo). We have Viking Skool (Cartoon Saloon) coming soon and Flix (Pictor) in 2023. We are always on the lookout for more to cater for this age group and as you can see comedy and great storytelling are key!

For our 0-6-year-old audience we are spoilt for choice. 2022 we have Alva's World (Kavaleer), Wee Littles (Magpie 6 Media), Happy (Paper Owl), Fia's Fairies (Little Moon), Ray of Sunshine (Daily Madness), and our 2023 slate is jam packed. I am looking for stories that are character driven perhaps a little surreal, not set in the "real world". We have so many beautiful animal themed series delivered or in production so we are not looking for anymore at the moment. I would love a series for the youngest section of that audience that is immersive and soothing, perhaps something for babies and toddlers?

I am also keen to explore teen animation. We are looking very carefully at our teen offering across all genres, so excited to perhaps explore acquiring titles out there in the anime space that would fit.
