Disney Art Challenge Exhibition
The artwork submitted to the Disney Art Challenge will take over the railings of the Prefecture during Festival week, presenting an exhibition around this year’s theme: road trip.
The Disney Art Challenge was created in 2013 as a way to show off the talent and creativity of French graphic arts and animation students. In total, almost 25 French animation schools, united under the patronage of the RECA (Animation School Network) in partnership with Art Ludique-Le Musée, participated in the competition, which has already received submissions from almost 1,000 students since its creation.
This fifth season’s road trip theme came straight out of CARS 3, the latest Disney•Pixar production set to hit theatres this August.
The students had from 9th January to 26th April 2017 to create a piece of artwork featuring a character and a background based on the given theme. The Disney Art Challenge is a big deal for these young creatives, as there’s an enticing €17,000 in financial support on the line to split between the 3 winners, not to mention the chance to gain notoriety amongst attending animation pros and experts.
The students’ artwork will be on display at the Haute-Savoie Prefecture all week long, giving passersby a glimpse into the wide range of talent flaunted by these aspiring animators.
This year’s jury members include Annette Marnat (illustrator for publishers and character designer on films like Hotel Transylvania, Moana and Storks) and Romain Hugault (graphic novelist: Beyond the Clouds, The Grand Duke, Angel Wings).
The winners will receive their prizes from the director and producer of Lost & fOUnd on Friday 16th June at 11:30 am, just before the premiere of CARS 3.
