Sommaire

A few months after the Mifa Pitch sessions, here's news about the development of some of the projects presented.

Feature Film Project

Ana, en passant

Ana, Passing Through

Project Leaders: Fernanda Salgado and Amina Jorge
Director: Fernanda Salgado

What do you remember from your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
The whole experience at Mifa was of great importance to Ana, Passing Through and its development. The Mifa Pitch was a wonderful platform, giving the project both endorsement and visibility; making it possible to meet potential partners from all over the world. Following our Mifa Pitch, we had several important and promising meetings with producers, sales agents and audio producers. Most importantly, it was when we first met the company that would later become one of the project's co-producers: Sardinha em Lata, an amazing animation studio from Portugal. We had seen their portfolio before, but it was during the Mifa that we had the chance to meet and exchange great ideas regarding the project.

What is your project’s current status?
We're now at the end of the project’s development stage, and working on revising the script. We've been to a script lab and a coproduction event after Mifa, both were in Brazil. The project has been advancing greatly, and we're super excited! We're now also beginning the funding stage for the production.

A last word about your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
Well, for animation projects, Mifa is certainly the place to be! From both a visibility point of view and the opportunity of getting to know several possible partners, being a part of the Mifa gave Ana, Passing Through, a pretty significant boost, making it possible to produce it in the near future. Apart from that it was a very enriching experience, in the sense that we got to know and learn from the other projects at the Pitches and especially when participating in the workshop together; as well as learning how to best present the project both in front of a large audience or in one-to-one meetings. Finally, both Mifa and the Festival are such creative and upbeat environments, we were extremely happy to be there and have our project as a part of it.

Mifa Pitches Partner Prizes 2019: Ciclic Prize and NEF Animation Prize

What do you remember from your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
The main thing that I remember from the whole program was how useful the pitch preparation was. The guidance from the team of experts really helps to take any fear and stress out of the presentation. Also the way we did this in a group gave us all a great sense of comradery, and allowed us to see different approaches to the process.

What is your project’s current status?
The animatic has been completed and I'm now setting up the shots for the animators and colourists. This is with design, pallet and embedded tools. We start animating at the beginning of January.

What was the contribution to the development of the project from the partners that awarded you the prizes?
I'm typing this as I sit in the Abbaye Fontevraud, this residency is where I'm doing the work of setting up the scenes and doing final designs so that we can transition into the production stage as smoothly as possible. Which brings me onto the next prize we won; animation production at Ciclic. We're excited to start the next stage with them.

A last word about your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
Even if we hadn’t won any prizes at Mifa with the presentation the whole experience would have definitely benefitted our project. The pitching workshops were genuinely useful so we would have come away with a great Pitch no matter what. This should be encouragement enough to participate.

Mifa Pitches Partner Prize 2019: Ciclic Prize

What do you remember from your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
Being submerged in the Annecy Mifa was an incredibly intense experience that enabled us to achieve a little more in our Patouille series. Here we were fortunate to meet authors of stimulating projects and who were touched by ours, international broadcasters and theatre distributors. This encouraged us to extend and to foster this series into new forms that we hadn’t considered up until then.

What is your project’s current status?
With support from the CNC audiovisual help funds, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, the Charente Department, and thanks to the Ciclic Pitch Prize, we are currently launching a second phase of development, where we will clarify the concept, characters and the general approach of the series with the aim of presenting the project to the 2020 Cartoon Forum.

What was the contribution to the development of the project from the partner that awarded you the prize?
Thanks to this prize we will be presenting our teaser at Ciclic. This is the perfect opportunity to move forward and deal with its technical design. The Ciclic Prize provides the project with a large financial aid of €25,000, as well as necessary equipment during our residency in March and April next year. We have already met Éric Réginaud, Head of Ciclic Animation, and his team to organize our visit.

A last word about your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
Participating in the Annecy Festival enabled us to put our series in the spotlight and at the same time obtain support from influential partners in this delicate development phase. We strongly advise project leaders to send their dossier and participate, because discovering that there are people who will read, listen and support your projects raises your belief in yourself. And it is thanks to all these rays of sunlight that the tiny Patouille seed grows a little more every day!
In other words: send it!

What do you remember from your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
The Mifa Pitch was very rewarding and engaging for us, we were able to have good meetings with several investors, publishers, and even some good musicians and sound designers. We received helpful advice from the mentors during the course to improve how to present our project and learned a lot from the other participants. Of course, the market was also very attractive to visit and talk to production and distribution companies. As well as all that, Annecy’s relaxing and beautiful atmosphere was wonderful and memorable.

What is your project’s current status?
Over the past year, we have had a lot of feedback about our vertical slice, many were inspirational and helpful. So we decided to review the game design process and redesign the entire gameplay. Now we are rewriting the whole story and the gameplay with the help and support of our investors. At the same time, we are looking for new investors to fund our other target media, such as web series and comic books.

A last word about your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
The Mifa Pitch process is very well designed and attractive. It is also improving every year. It is ideal and useful for independent artists to be seen and supported. We believe that this experience is useful for any artist or project.

Mifa Pitches Partner Prize 2019: Ciclic Prize

What do you remember from your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
I remember the pitching bootcamp beforehand. I found that very useful. I also found that the audience had a broad range of valuable propositions. It was very well attended (the house was full).

What is your project’s current status?
My project is in the screenplay phase. I'm looking for funding.

What was the contribution to the development of the project from the partner that awarded you the prize?
I'll be attending Ciclic next year for my residency. The Prize includes time at the venue to work on my project. I'll continue to keep in touch with them as we plan for next year. I would improve the prize by adding prize money so that work on the project can continue before the residency takes place.

A last word about your participation at the Mifa Pitches?
I had an incredible time in Annecy this year and I encourage other project leaders to submit their work. The space offers many opportunities to create new contacts and nurture existing creative relationships. I highly recommend attending the Festival.
