This is already my twelfth edition at the helm of this incredible team responsible for the Annecy Festival’s programme. Twelve years delineated by spectacular growth, the emergence of numerous countries, new broadcasting platforms, the development of VR, XR and now AI. Twelve years that have seen gender equity become struggle, then a challenge, and finally an achievement. Twelve years that have raised the bar for diversity and inclusion.

In 2024, we have the immense pleasure of showcasing Portuguese animation, a cinematography that we have enjoyed watching blossom, particularly thanks to the talent and determination of artists such as José Miguel Ribeiro, Abi Feijó and Fernando Galrito, who have been outstanding ambassadors for Portugal since the last century. Regina Pessoa’s unprecedented success with Tragic Story with Happy Ending, winner of the Cristal for a Short Film in 2006, paved the way for what was to follow. Since then, Portuguese filmmakers have amassed endless prestigious awards and nominations. Therefore, it seemed only fitting that this dear friend of the Festival should have the honour of creating the 2024 poster.
