Freshly dumped by her boyfriend, Lucy has moved back in with her mom – who has done a lot better in life than she has. Having pictured her twenties as something resembling a Britney Spears music video, Lucy’s stuck in a reality with her loyal yet intrusive animals by her side, for better or worse. From disastrous hookups, chronic panic attacks, unresolved mommy-issues, to a poorly managed sex drive, Lucy is doing her best to trudge through “the best years of her life.”

It begins on a winter’s night, when a falling star leads a woodcutter to discover a baby abandoned in the forest. The woodcutter brings the baby home and raises him as the Star-Child. As the Star-Child grows up, he becomes more beautiful but equally vain. One day, he is cruel to a passing beggar-woman who is revealed to be his mother. The Star-Child rejects her, and drives her from the village. As a penalty for his wickedness, his beauty turns to ugliness and he takes on the appearance of a frog. He is humbled by the change, and develops a concern for the poor and downtrodden. He begins a quest to find his mother to ask her forgiveness. The journey takes him to a great city where he is taken captive by an evil wizard. The Star-Child can win his freedom if he finds a piece of gold for the wizard, but risks being turned into stone if he fails. He finds the piece of gold just in time, but gives it away to a poor beggar-man. The selfless act transforms the Star-Child back into a boy, and his beauty is restored. The Star-Child is reunited with his mother, and the beggar-man is revealed to be the Star-Child’s father. The beggar-man and beggar-woman are transformed into king and queen of the city. Together with the Star-Child, they rule the city with justice and mercy.
