The Festival poster delivers a deep dive into Portuguese culture
The 2024 Annecy Festival shines a spotlight on Portuguese animation!
This year, the poster design was placed in the capable hands of Portuguese Artist and Director Regina Pessoa, and patron of the 2024 Le Campus Mifa. Her personal artistic vision adds a mysterious, poetic atmosphere to the poster, which is a genuine ode to the cultural heritage.

Regina Pessoa’s universe
The Partners’ trailer created by nWave Studios
This year, nWave Studios created the Partners 2024 trailer, and they share their creative, animated universe with us. In their very first participation at the Annecy Festival, using their iconic characters from their latest productions, they "take the festivalgoers on an immersive experience, exploring all aspects of the event".
Founded in 1994 by a group of artists, nWave is a fully integrated animation studio that rapidly became renowned for its expertise in CGI and 3D. They made a name for themselves making short, then increasingly longer, ride simulation films for park attractions. After the blinding success of these simulations, they embarked on their first feature film, Fly Me to the Moon (2008), a turning point for the studio as they became pioneers in family entertainment on an international scale as it was the first film in the world to be created for stereoscope 3D.
These successes launched their career, and since then nWave Studios has produced a dozen adventure comedies including The House of Magic in 2013, The Son of Bigfoot in 2017, and The Queen’s Corgi in 2019, which have all been exported worldwide. Currently, they are in production with the sequel of Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness, directed by Benjamin Mousquet, expected for release at the end of the year.
Choreographies: Animation and Dance
This year, the Annecy Festival is putting the spotlight on dance in animation through the theme Choreographies: Animation and Dance. The different films will be spread across five programmes:
- Bodies and Souls
- Materials and Collisions
- Gestures and Tangos
- Patterns and Tracks
- Cartoons and Choreographies
This marvellous programme celebrating the very essence of dance from the body, gestures, choreographies and much more besides. Discover and enjoy it to the full at the Festival!
GOBELINS Paris
For almost 50 years, it has been the Festival’s custom for the GOBELINS Paris animation film students to create short films together to open each film screening. This year, there are 10 exclusive short films showcasing Portugal created by the class of 2024 doing the Animator and Director of Animated Films bachelor’s degree. These productions by the new generation of animators are brimming with creativity, ingenuity, fresh techniques and approaches. Superb creations to discover on the big screens before each film screening.
These talented students are treating us to some truly amazing moments, while also putting Portuguese animation and the art of animation into the limelight. A huge thank you to them!
