Susie Wilson Dies

It is with profound sadness that the Festival team learned of the death on 27th September 2024 of Susie Wilson, who had been part of the Annecy selection committee in 2008.

At the beginning of this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we learned that Susie Wilson, a dear Festival friend, died of cancer at the age of 56 after a fifteen-year battle with the disease.

Susie was a member of the Festival’s short film selection committee in 2008.
Passionate and dedicated, she formed close friendships with the selection team and returned to Annecy almost every year. Despite her declining health, she kept her passion and joy at reuniting with her animation family, as well as her strong, impulsive character, which was tempered by her quick-witted Scottish humour.

After studying visual arts in Japan in the 1990s, Susie directed Scotland’s first animation festival, Projector, which she founded in 2001. She also taught in the animation department at Dundee University, before moving to the south of France some twenty years ago. Here she continued to work as an independent consultant for various animation studios and schools.

The Annecy Festival team shares the grief of her family and friends.
